The 1969–70 Season
The club's fourth year on the pitch — and its first full-page photo feature.
That October the Missourian devoted a photo spread to “that old English game for gentlemen,” and the weekend's results gave it a happy ending: the “A” side shut out Iowa State 10–0 while the “B” team won 6–0.
The 1970 Savitar yearbook picked up the rest of the fall. The ruggers beat two Big Ten sides, Iowa 12–3 and Illinois 15–5, then lost 8–3 at Michigan in Ann Arbor and 33–3 to Palmer College of Davenport, Iowa. The yearbook called it a split of the four games on the fall schedule. It also noted what made the club unusual: it was not the University of Missouri Rugby Club. The athletic department could not afford another conference sport, so the players paid for their own travel, equipment and medical supplies. A match with Notre Dame was the highlight of the spring.
